Our 23-Hour Crisis
Receiving Center
The 23-Hour Crisis Receiving Center (CRC) provides immediate intake and short-term crisis intervention for individuals experiencing acute mental health distress. The service is designed for rapid assessment, stabilization, and determination of the most appropriate next level of care.
The CRC is intended for urgent situations where immediate evaluation is necessary but hospitalization is not.

- Safety concerns require short-term supervised monitoring
- A hospital, provider, or community partner has made a referral
- Additional assessment is needed following a mobile crisis response
If you are unsure whether the CRC is the appropriate level of care, our team can provide guidance.

Common Questions, Clear Answers
The CRC provides short-term support for up to 23 hours. During that time, individuals receive assessment, monitoring, and stabilization to determine the appropriate next level of care.
No. The CRC is a community-based crisis service focused specifically on mental health needs. We provide rapid clinical assessment and stabilization for people in mental health crisis, but we are not equipped for medical emergencies. For medical emergencies, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
Referrals come from many sources, including hospitals and emergency departments, primary care providers, therapists and psychiatrists, schools, law enforcement and first responders, community agencies, and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Individuals and family members can also reach out directly to learn whether the CRC is the right fit.
Before the visit concludes, our team works with the individual and family to develop a clear next-step plan. This may include outpatient therapy, medication management, community stabilization services, mental health skill-building, residential crisis care, or hospitalization when needed. The goal is to make sure no one leaves without a clear path forward.
We accept Anthem, Aetna Better Health, Magellan, Humana, Sentara, and United Healthcare/Optum. Coverage and eligibility vary by plan, so contact our team and we can help verify your specific benefits before services begin.
